Valley Skills for Life

Picture1The purpose of Valley Skills for Life is to help people with disability develop the skills they need to increase their  independence and participate as valued and active members of the community with a person centred approach. Planners work with each individual to  design a program of activities to achieve the individual’s goals.

Valley Skills for Life provides programs which include:

Community Participation provides eligible school leavers training and support to be involved in many varied programs which include developing social skills, pre-employment training and the ability to participate in the broader community.

Life Choices assists people with moderate to very high support needs aged 25 to 54 to achieve  their goals and participate as valued and active members of society, provide flexible programs and activities that meet individuals’ goals, health and activity levels, life stage, interests, and changing support needs

Active Ageing responds to the needs of people with a disability aged 55 – 64 years. The Program aims to promote an active and healthy older life, maintain capacity to participate in community life and remain independent, promote opportunities for participation in purposeful activities Picture2and ongoing personal development, support participants to develop and sustain social networks and interactions.

Self Managed  provides people with disability the opportunity to manage their own program of activities and the funding with help of an intermediary service provider, Valley Skills for Life is able to offer this service to people with a Self Managed program.

Self Directed people instruct the Valley Skills for Life planners on the programs, activities and supports that they require & would like

Centre Based primarily people use the Valley Skills for Life Centre for many of their programs, depending on individual choice community programs are also accessed

Individual Community Based activities are provided in a range of community settings these are selected by the individual & arranged with help from Valley Skills for Life planners.

  • Art and craft based programs such as card and paper making, ceramics, woodwork, gift making, computers, photography…
  • Community Access programs include recreational, leisure and educational outings such as banking, library, shopping, cafes, cinema, bushwalking, fishing, swimming, BBQs, picnics, bowling, art galleries, horse riding, gym…
  • Communication, living and social skills, cooking, relaxation, massage, exercise, sport, facials, money skills, literacy and numeracy skills…
  • Active and creative programs such as, dance, music and movement, sensory room, massage room, liberty swing, sensory garden, drama, performing…..
